Got Questions? We've Got Answers
Find answers to the most common questions about our Youth Tourism Ambassador program.
Who can apply to become an MLC Youth Tourism Ambassador?
If you’re between 18 and 30 years old, a citizen of one of the six MLC countries (Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, or Viet Nam), and passionate about tourism, culture, environment, or community work — you’re encouraged to apply. No specific academic background is required.
Do I need to work in tourism to be eligible?
No. While experience in tourism is great, it’s not required. If you’re active in your community, good at communication, care about sustainability, and want to make a difference, this program is for you.
What will I actually do as a Youth Tourism Ambassador?
You’ll be trained and supported to promote responsible tourism, represent youth voices, and lead or support projects in your country. You might work on local campaigns, speak at youth events, create digital content, or help connect your community with tourism opportunities.
Is this a full-time job or paid position?
No, this is not a full-time job. It’s a voluntary leadership role. Some travel or project expenses may be supported depending on the activity and available funding, but Ambassadors typically balance this with studies, work, or other commitments.
Will there be training or support after I’m selected?
Yes! All selected Ambassadors will take part in a regional Leadership Workshop, where you’ll gain skills in sustainable tourism, communication, leadership, and more. You’ll also be part of an ongoing network for mentorship, collaboration, and exchange.
What kind of projects or activities will I be involved in?
This depends on your interests and what’s happening in your country. It could include awareness campaigns, youth forums, school outreach, digital storytelling, promoting local culture or nature sites, or supporting community-based tourism groups
Do I need to speak English fluently?
Basic English is helpful, especially for regional activities, but it’s not a strict requirement. We value your ideas, energy, and commitment more. Interpretation may be provided in key events or workshops when needed.
What’s the time commitment like?
You should be ready to join the workshop, stay active in the program for at least one year, and participate in some regional or national activities. The schedule is flexible and designed so you can still focus on your studies or job.
How do I apply, and what should I prepare?
Application details will be announced by your country’s tourism or youth authority. Usually, you’ll be asked to submit a short form, maybe a short essay or video about yourself and your motivation. Stay tuned on official channels or social media for announcements.
Why should I join this program?
Because it’s a unique chance to grow your skills, meet inspiring youth from the region, make an impact in your community, and represent your country in something meaningful. Plus, it’s a lot of fun and opens new doors for your personal and professional journey.
Do I need to be a student to join?
Not at all. You can be a student, graduate, working, freelancing, or even in between jobs. What matters is your passion, willingness to learn, and commitment to community and tourism.
Will I get a certificate or recognition?
Yes, all Ambassadors who actively participate will receive official recognition — including certificates, badges, or public mentions — which can be a great addition to your resume or portfolio.
What happens after my term as Ambassador ends?
You’ll become part of the MLC Youth Ambassador alumni network — where you can continue contributing, mentoring new Ambassadors, or joining other youth-led or tourism-related activities.
